Title: Ballot Initiative, Shared Parenting, Equal Access
Post by: wikifamilies on May 27, 2005, 09:23:15 PM
We have started to finalize the process for an initiative petition about the general idea of shared parenting. We have drafted a petition that focuses on equal access to the minor children, and it is based on Assembly Bill 1307. The petition is to help retain the rights of equal access that normal families share when they are together but later separate for whatever reason. Current law makes it hard for families, when they separate, to get a custody arrangement that is in the best interest for their children. We can start a change in California to give parents equal access to their children even if it is with or without joint custody.

The group that coordinates wants to also develop a model other states can duplicate to get petitions out easily for public signatures. WikiFamilies networks with other sites to share resources.

We have mail-lists available and contacts with many electors in several counties, lobbyist, and congresspeople and more.

Good job, we need reform in the Family Law system.
