Title: Child Support Reform - HB 221
Post by: Janet_G on Mar 29, 2005, 01:52:38 PM
Just want to ask anyone who is for changing the child support system in Georgia to an income shares model, to please contact their representative in the Georgia State Senate and ask them to vote yes for HB221 on Thursday, March 31st.  This is the last day of the legislative session for this year and if the bill does not pass, it is dead for yet another year.

HB221 ensures that not only the non-custodial parent's income is taken into effect, but the custodial parent's income also.  It gives NCP's a 10% reduction in their child support if they have their child 100 days or more of each year.  It will mandate that Georgia create a child support commission to come up with realistic numbers of what it really costs to support a child in Georgia, tables and software to make calculating child support easier and more uniform for judges.

This bill has already passed the Georgia House of Representatives and will be voted on in the Senate on Thursday.  Please call or email your state senator and ask them to vote yes, for Georgia's children.
