To:  Illinois General Assembly
PETITION FOR PRESUMPTION OF JOINT CUSTODY

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED Citizens of the State of Illinois petition the General Assembly and Governor Rod Blagojevich, to support and sign into law, legislation that requires a REBUTTABLE PRESUMPTION OF JOINT CUSTODY.

We believe that Illinois law should be reformed to keep pace with the changing needs of children, parents, and their communities, and should expressly protect our fundamental rights without the need for lengthy, costly, and intrusive litigation, thereby reducing conflict and placing parents in one classification, providing equal rights and responsibilities through a Rebuttable Presumption of Joint Custody. This will create an incentive for cooperation rather than conflict, and help keep both parents close. We believe this is in the best interests of our children.

Sincerely,
