My DF didnt find out he fathered a child until ss was 8 months old.He doesnt think he ever signed a birth certificate and the bm doesnt know if he is on there. How would he go about finding it out without having to pay for one?

most of everything I've seen says that only a parent or the person can request a birth certificate.

if he is not listed, he will not be able to get it.

because of identity theft, no one can just "pay" for a birth certificate for anyone else and get it.  it's not public record anymore.

When I had my son, I did not list his father on his birth certificate. Later during court, it was ordered to have it amended, which the state did automatically. As for me, I never went to get a new one.

But you can go down to the county records dept and request a copy for a small fee.

Just bring in your court papers to prove you are the father in case they try to give you any problems.
