Title: If there are any of the old timers out there...
Post by: Rakkasan on May 24, 2006, 05:21:24 AM
...who might remember me.

I thought I would touch base with this site since it has always been like a second family to me.

I found out last week that I have cancer in my left lung and it has spread to my right shoulder.   I have no idea at this point how bad it really is, what type of cancer or chances or survival.   I do have ral good health insurance, the company I work for actually makes alot of cancer drugs and anti-side effect drugs all of which will be available to me free of charge if the doctors decide to use them in my treatment.

I go to see two oncologist on June 2nd who will lay out a treatment plan that will surely consist of Chemo and radiation therapy.

Wish me luck

Rak, so sorry hear about your illness.  There is so much more out there now for cancer.  Better protocols and cures everyday.  Our prayers are with you.

Take care

Rak,

I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep you in my prayers.

Did you tell Parkman? How is he doing with all this?
Call me if you need to talk. Cell # is still the same (lost your's unfortunately).

Kent!

Parkman does not know because I have not been able to have contact with him since July 2003.   We had a motion pending on medical reimbursement issues, but it has been withdrawn citing health problems.  So the EX knows I have health problems but she does not have any specifics.

I'll be praying and thinking of you.  I don't think that we've conversed much, but I've seen your posts and they are always informative and supportive.

Here's a simple and well know prayer that I hope will help you in dealing with your new struggle.

Serenity Prayer
Reinhold Niebuhr

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

Although known most widely in its abbreviated form,
above, the entire prayer reads as follows:

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as the pathway to peace;
taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will;
that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
and supremely happy with Him forever
in the next.
Amen

As is so typical for me, I have no wisdom to offer, but my prayers are with you.

You know my prayers are with you. I would also like to encourage you to put aside any hard feelings you have had for God because of your ex and her family.

Honey, if there is anything I can do (send my RN friend Dawn to nurse you back to health?) you let me know.

Rak,

there really is so much they can do now.  My dad was diagnosed two years ago with cancer...and he had surgery.  He didnt even need chemo....

but, that initial word "cancer' felt so devastating....I remember going to the beach the week I heard.....I sat on the balcony as my family slept and just cried and cried.  years ago, that word had a right to its terror....But, cancer is not the devastation it once was....My dad was scared for along time after....but with each check up is more proof that he beat it.....

I will pray for you....

I agree - it is nice to see people poking out of the darkness....

I stopped in the chatroom a couple of times last week.....maybe it was the time of day, but it seemed so quiet.  And it made me think back to when we had sometimes 30 or 40 people in there....was definitely my rock for awhile and a group that helped me and DH through some rough times.

Tho I'm not here often, something told me I needed to check today....

Rak, my thoughts and prayers are with you.  I work for a university that has one of the top cancer centers in the nation..........I've seen first hand the advances they have made.  You have a wonderful advantage in working for a pharmaceutical company that specializes in cancer medications, too.  What a grace from God!  Please let us know how you're doing...........we're all hear for you!  :-)

This may be a small comfort, have an aunt who just dealt with the lung and in her back. Complete success in her lung, still waiting word on her back. The doctors seem hopeful.

So much progress has been made in the medical field, but still scares the hell out of ya. You got friends here when you need them!

Keep us posted....

Title: Update!!!
Post by: Rakkasan on Jun 25, 2006, 05:53:21 AM
I finished 10 days of radiation on the right shoulder this week.   This went very well, a little sunburn like reaction, but no major pain or discomfort.   Although the shoulder still hurts some, this I was told  is normal because of the amount of damage done to the bone, I can tell that the tumor in the shoulder diminished in size and I am receiving some mediciation that is designed to rebuild the bone mass.

I was running a fever for the past couple of weeks and they had to delay placing the Port-a-cath, but it was finally accomplished Monday morning and I began 3 consecutive days of chemotherapy on Tuesday.  The good news is that there was no hurling or nausea at all.  The only side effect was that for about 2 hours after treatment, every time I would stand I would get chilled and shake violently.   I quickly learned to stay seated for at least 2 hours after each treatment.  :)   I may be old and slow, but I ain't totally stupid.  hehehe.

Now I wait for a couple of weeks and begin blood tests and then another round of Chemo.

That is all so far.   Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts.

Hey Rak! I am not on here much anymore either, but I do check in once in a while. Sorry to hear that you are sick, but I am glad to know that you are fighting it! We will keep you in our prayers.

Parker will be back in your life again, I am sure of it. My DH just got back one of his nieces after 10 years! She was old enough to remember what her family was really like and as soon as she was legally able, she came running back home. I am sure that Parker knows where to find you.
