Father's Issues / This AM on GMA & Today Show!
Jun 02, 2004, 01:04:20 PM
They gave an update this morning on both GMA and the Today Show.  Yesterday Mom had to turn over the kids and chose to make it a media circus.  She forced the exchange to happen on an open street and alerted all the media to be there.  It was heartbreaking to watch the alienation go on right on TV....Mom bawled, cried out "be strong, pray" etc, she physically began to pull the girls back out of the car.  The kids looked incredibly frightened.

Mom and her lawyer were on GMA again, but the interviewers let her have it for choosing to hurt her kids in such a way.  When asked why she couldn't be brave (instead of making such a scene) for her girl's sake, her reply was "I am not a robot."  When asked why she chose to expose her girls to the media in such a way she stated that she felt it was important that America know what is going on...apparently more important than the well being of her kids.  She stated that she wouldn't be able to contact her girls because she couldn't afford the fees and it was more important for her to pay her lawyers to continue the fight.

Someone else they interviewed stated that Mom is going to have a lot of difficulty in her appeal after such a display...I was just glad that she showed her true colors in how far she was willing to publicly go with her alienation.  I hope this helps the public realize that she wasn't the innocent victim she claimed to be.

Though Dad continued to take the high road and not speak to the press, both shows managed to take a fairly unbiased view.  They showed video of Dad with the girls (of course they were happy and well cared for with him)...interestingly Mom had the video secretly shot when she had Dad stalked during one of his visitations!

Kudos to both these shows for trying so hard to be unbiased in a sensational story that could have quickly gotten out of hand!

Here isa great discussion group with a couple of articles (slightly biased) and lots of good discussion...I am particularly proud of the comments made by a certain "concerned father" that I love!

Thanks so much for the idea of a great book.  I plan to buy it for my husband for Father's day.

I went to Border's to buy it and had to ask for help when they were out-of-stock.  Speaking with an employee, I learned that Eric Carle is going to be signing books at the Border's in Davis, CA tomorrow May 16th at 1pm.  Luckily it isn't too far from me.  Hopefully some other parents who understand how important the role of a father is will have a chance to get a copy signed too.

Thanks for the tip!
