Father's Issues / Forwarded Announcement
Dec 05, 2003, 09:53:23 AM
Forwarded from the folks at www.parentingtime.net:

- Back-Years for OPTIMAL Now Available -
Due to numerous requests, the OPTIMAL development team has enabled the ability to 'back-load' previous years into OPTIMAL accounts.

You can now have an OPTIMAL account that begins as far back as 1995. We realize many of you have records that go back several years, and this new capability will allow you to load that data into OPTIMAL. You can also import data from the SPARC Parenting Time Tracker for previous years from 1995 to the present if you need to.

For more information or to arrange for an account with additional years, please contact the OPTIMAL team at [email protected].

Father's Issues / Chat Room Registration
Nov 29, 2003, 09:20:35 PM
WHAT: A new Chat Room registration procedure is now in effect; users will need to register with a valid email address in order to create a Chat Room account.

WHY:  The new registration procedure will radically reduce the number of 'trolls' who find their way into the chat room, and it will also reduce 'throwaway' accounts generated from casual users who create an account, look around, and then never come back.

For example, all user accounts were cleared recently, and within 10 days there were close to 1,000 new accounts created. The vast majority of these were 'one-time' accounts. This "free-for-all" registration loads the system needlessly and was becoming an administrative nightmare.

We realize that this will be a minor inconvenience to our regular users, but the enhanced security and stability is worth the few minutes it will take to re-register.

If you have any trouble registering, please contact us at [email protected]

Note: We've found that Hotmail, Yahoo, and MSN may filter out legitimate email from SPARC. If you've registered and haven't received an email from us within an hour or so (usually much sooner than that), try an email address other than Hotmail, Yahoo, or MSN.

The previous message board software was 5 years old, had a limited feature set, and was starting to buckle under the increased traffic.

Father's Issues / RE: so much for HTML tags :-(

>I can't format my posts?

Yes, you can.

HTML can be used, but instead of angle-brackets: < and >, surround the HTML in square brackets: [ and ].

See this previous post for a couple of tips: http://www.deltabravo.net/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=100&topic_id=39&mesg_id=39&page=

> HAving all kinds of trouble with this new format...can anyone point me > in the right direction??

It would help us considerably if you gave us a better description of the problem. Saying "I cant seem to log on to chat" doesn't give us much to go on.

Does the chat window not open? Are you getting an error message? Does it say your password is incorrect? Is the screen blank?

Please describe the difficulty you're having as clearly as possible and we'll try and figure out what's going on. It might also be a good idea to review the Help pages listed below to see if the answer is covered on one of them:

Father's Issues / RE: Help with new format!

For the moment, avatars are only supported for remote images, there aren't any default images provided. This means that images have to be referenced through a URL on the net somewhere.

Avatar usage is still up in the air, depending on how much bandwidth they end up consuming. If it turns out to be too much we may have to turn them off.

Although the images are small (5 or 10k), they really add up. If you have 4 or 5 per page, and they're being loaded 10,000 times a day....

One 10K image loaded 10,000 times is 100,000K, or 100 megs of bandwidth. Five images would equal 500 megs a day. That's a lot of bandwidth.

Some of you may get error messages that mention "REFERER LOGGING" when you try to post. This is a setting that can usually be traced back to one of several things:

1) Using AOL. The AOL browser does not have Referrer Logging turned on by default. Unfortunately since we don't have a sample AOL browser available to us, we can't tell you where that setting is in the AOL browser. Contact AOL and ask them where this setting is. Please let us know where it is also, so we can make a post on how to do it.

2) Norton Security software. The Norton software has Referrer Logging turned off by default, so you'll need to turn it on. In Norton, open the Advanced Options, Web tab, click Add site, add: //www.deltabravo.net. Then select deltabravo in that column, and on the Privacy tab, set it to accept referrers.

3) Using the Opera browser. Opera users need to go to File -> Preferences -> Security -> Privacy -> and put a check in "Enable referrer logging".
