Here is some fodder for the grist mill. The following post appeares on Divorce Source on one of the bulletin boards. The gender bias of the entire question is repulsive. I believe that we should let this student know how we feel.



I am a third year journalism student and am writing about how much access fathers should have to their children and am looking for opinions of those who have gone through this.

Please could you let me know your opinion on a few of the following things:

how much do you think a child should see there father? Is it better for them to not see them at all than to see them when the father "has time" i.e fitting the child around the rest of his life causing him to be unreliable? What effect do you think this has on the child?

I have to say that I was very disappointed in the story on channel 7 news(WHIO TV Dayton, Ohio).

First, it was reported as a call into waste busters, which it was not. It was a response email to the deadbeat story they aired. Second, they aired about 15 seconds of a 15 minute conversation and the only thing they had me saying on behalf of noncustodial parents was that when a man gets into arrears they should ask why. And third, they aired the remaining majority of the story about a lady who had been after her ex for 17 years and was behind $45,000 complete with showing his picture and her opinion that they should get even tougher.

Jim Otte stated father's would take their fight to Columbus next year when Ohio considers changes and Cheryl McHenery ended with how there is X billion dollars owed by noncustodial parents.

I apologize for the let down as I had been approached by many after seeing the promising advertisements that perhaps a fraction of our issues would be broadcast. I warned with caution that we don't know how the story will be framed when it finally airs. We are, however, used to this disappointment like Don Hubin being told his minority report would not be included in the final recommendations from the guideline council to the legislature.

 There are those that do put out the entire story, like the newspaper I recently said would publish my editorial in it's entirety and who wants to do a follow-up story on the facts. I hope that everyone shares their disappointment with channel 7 by emailing Jim Otte and letting him know where you have been.   Otte, Jim (CBI-Dayton); 7online@w...  Channel 7 Report

I have my own questions like, Jim:

1. Where was the fact that the recommendations by the council include a 23-1117% increase in support (you had a picture of the report)?

2. Why are noncustodial parents held to the unattainable standard of nevergetting sick, never becoming disabled, and never losing a job in a poor economy?

3. Why is the noncustodial parent representative's minority report not being included in the final recommendations like it was in the two councils prior (you had a picture of this report, too)?

4. Why can they take 50% of a payers gross pay and still expect him to live (actually 65% or 55% if you have subsequent children)?

5. Why they aren't looking at the flaws in the income shares model when there is more appropriate models like cost shares?

6. Why is paternity fraud condoned OR kids treated unequally in and out of an order OR judges not granting deviations when noncustodial parents request it?

7. Why are we using the term deadbeat when the largest federally funded study into the matter found they don't exist in significant numbers (you had a picture of the book)?

8. Why are we not looking at the fact that CSEA is a revenue producing entity of the state so it behooves them to make awards as high and as long as they can?

9. Why is Ohio a deadbeat state that is holding over $33,000,000 in undistributed child support that has already been paid?

10. Why, when a third of noncustodial parents reside with custodial parents, are we condoning practices that are hurting the very kids the CSEA is supposed to be helping by letting these kids watch their stepparents being taken from their home in handcuffs?

11. Why aren't we encouraging equal parenting when research has shown that involved parents support their children?

 I have lots of questions especially since I know all of these facts were laid out for Mr. Otte when he came to my home and these are the facts that sit at the heart of the problem.

Things, like I said, will get worse under the current more aggressive policies CSEA is adopting. Like I also said, you can invent 7 new ways to squeeze a turnip but you will still not get blood. Mr. Galluzo and Daufel were here when this interview took place and can attest to the fact that these issues were laid out and probably share my amazement at this being the best reporting that could be done.

Mr. Otte, when and if you reply, please "reply all" to share your feedback with everyone so that we might understand why the story was aired in the manner it was. For those that didn't see it, I'm in the process of trying to get the necessary drivers so that the captured video clip can be put on the forum. We all know when these things are fixed, the arrearage problem will take care of itself.

All I can say, Mr. Otte, is that I hope you never have to experience these things first hand. We'll certainly be in touch when things move to the legislature, or when channel 7 airs bent point of views, but will certainly proceed with caution.

From my perspective, the best approach for a database is to only use
Œquantitative¹ measures ¬ numbers that are as objective as possible. That would include:

1. Incomes of the parties.
2. Age of the parties.
3. Who filed first.
4. The basis for granting the divorce and by who (mutual incompatibility would be a no-fault, where as anything else would require a determination of fault and could affect the ruling.)
4. Length of the marriage.
5. Amount and duration of spousal support ¬ if any.
6. Number of children.
7. Type of custody ¬ sole vs. shared and mom vs. dad
8. If either party requested shared custody.
9. Any deviation from the calculated amount of child support.

I’m sure that there are other things that could also be used.

From the above information, it should be possible to establish track records for spousal support (normalized for length of marriage and incomes), any bias in custody rulings and if the court is encouraging involvement by both parents.

If it is possible to just have your Clerk of Courts pull files so you can find the information, that would be the best and least expensive approach.

That wouldn¹t be practical for larger counties. For example, Cuyahoga
County has 5 judges in the domestic relations division and Lord only knows how many magistrates.

Hammer A Spammer - "SPAM Vampire"

My internet host called me this morning and ask if I was running anything last night that did a lot of down loads.

I said “Yes, I’ve been running a program called Spam Vampire”

He asked me not to run it.   I said ok, BUT email the reason why it is not good to run the program over night so I can post it.   Here is his email.


Running the Spam Vampire website is definitely not a good idea for a few reasons.

The main purpose of Spam Vampire is to put spammers out of business by creating huge bandwidth costs for them.  The reality of the situation, however, is that the bandwidth must come from somewhere, and that somewhere is your ISP.  This raises our cost of doing business just as much as it does the spammers, which can in turn raise the price of your broadband service.  Spam Vampire also ends up doing the exact same thing as most viruses, completely filling up an internet connection with data so that no one else would be able to utilize that connection.

I know you are frustrated by spammers, but this method will end up costing much more for the internet providers than for the spammers.

                            THE GOOD WIFE’S GUIDE

•   Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking of him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favorite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.

•   Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you’ll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

•   Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it for him.

•   Clear away the clutter. Make one more trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives.

•   Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper etc. and then run a dustcloth over the tables.

•   Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. You husband will fell he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

•   Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children’s hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes. Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.

•   Be happy to see him.

•   Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.

•   Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first – remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

•   Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.

•   Your goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

•   Don’t greet him with complaints and problems.

•   Don’t complain if he comes late for dinner, or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.

•   Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

•   Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

•   Don’t ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

•   A good wife always knows her place.

Ever wonder about those people who say they are giving more than 100%? We have all been to those meetings where someone wants you to give over 100%. How about achieving 103%? What makes up 100% in life? ????

Here's a little mathematical formula that might help you answer these questions:

Their is a presadental candidate who is Pro Father!!

After a canned speech calling for the normal Libertarian platform changes in what we call government, when being police,  Michael Badnarik, Libertarian Nominee for the Presidency of U.S. of A., was asked in writing about Child abuse and CPS [Child Protection Services].
  In less than 2 minute answer,  Mr. BADNARIK, who is now showing in polls that include him in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota up from Zero [when he was NOT included in polls] to 1.5% and in a recent poll 3% in N.M.  BEFORE he started running Tv adds,  said, ~ I would do all I can to abolish CPS,  communities, friends and neighbors should be responsible for deciding IF they will get personally involved to stop.  If it is not serious enough for YOU to be involved, personally, it probably does not rise to the level to justify taking the children away.   He went on to elaborate that 75% of child abuse happens IN Foster care , AFTER the children have been taken from their natural parents.
   I have it on my TV show, actually footage, so anyone can see and hear PRECISELY what the Libertarian Presidential nominee SAID.
 *** Fathers and Childrens Rights groups now have a Presidential champion!  Abolish CPS, it does far more harm than good, and their is no constitutional provision to permit it to even exit.
    http://www.Badnarik.org  should have a position paper on the web site by September 1, Allen Hacker, the California Badnarik Coordinator assured me tonight.  Regardless, I'll have that on my Tv show airing locally by this weekend.
    Badnarik remains the ONLY presidential hopeful to declare the CPS system UNFIT to care for anyones children.  It is all about the money and building Government Empires of power  O V E R parents.... not the best interests of the children.
   I am only sending this to you Fathers Rights Groups.  Pass it on to the other 1000+ groups.

Fathers Rights have a champion.  His name is Michael Badnarik, and he and hundreds of other Libertarians are on all 50 state ballots this November.
   If you want the screwing you been getting by the Courts, President Clinton, Bush, then vote for the two parties which create and maintain the FAMILY  destruction machine.  you know... theDemocrats and Republicrats.   The definition of insanity, is to continue to do what  you have always done, and expect a different result.!!
   If  you want to send a strong message to abolish CPS, END Court FORCED child support, and grant both parents EQUAL time [barring one is in jail or
whacko],  Michael BADNARIK is you candidate.
   Now, if you don't check out http://www.Badnarik.org  and click on his EVENTS calendar, find out when he will be NEAR you and go thank him for standing up for DADS, and do all you can to get him INTO the October Debates, then you DADS deserve what you have been getting.

 Freedom is not Free, and many Dads are sitting in jail as I write this, because they were NOT VIGILLANTE about guarding their civil liberties.  BADNARIK and the Libertarians are the medicine we need to heal Americas civil Rights abuses on a lot of issue, but none more cherished than this one.
    And spread the word.
