When the PBFH remarried, she really sunk her claws into a good one. He owns a construction company, VERY well off. So well off, in fact, that she doesn't have to work a day in her life.

When she sued DH for child support, she got a large chunk because her income is so low. It's nonexistant on paper. However..

The kids tell DH that she does all the books and accounts payable/receivable for his million dollar company. I went to hotjobs.com and read that an accountant of that magnitude has a median salary of $98,000/year.

When he takes her back to court, and she says she doesn't have a job, can he thrown down to the court that she does all the books for her husbands company?? It might only be on the hearsey that the kids told him...

Absolutely, some sort of wage should be imputed for the BM.  In the very least, the wage level she was earning before she stopped working.

What state are you in? If it's income share run the numbers. You might be suprised to find that his obligation to child support actually goes UP because of the COMBINED income b.s. system that is used. YUP, that's right. Give it a try!

Hey Kiddo, if they use both incomes to determine child support that's considered income share. Some states just take a percentage off the top from the NCP.
Not knowing what your husband makes, pays in health insurance ect. It's impossible to say. If her income is that high & your husbands alot lower then it's entirely possible (though I wouldn't count on it) she COULD be made to actually pay him child support. Yeah, I know, I get the giggles just thinking about that one. But they would probably just your husband pay medical or call it wash. Judges can deviate from the guidelines so even if it shows a neg they would probably make sure he contributes something. This could be very interesting!

Have never dealt with this personally, but have heard where they will impute an income in some cases.  Personally, I think they should impute AT LEAST minimum wage for a parent.

That said - she probably wouldn't be considered an accountant for $98K.  That probably require certification, CPA, and /or experience.

I would at least mention to the judge that it is your belief she is doing this, and that she is capable of earning an income to help support her children.  Does she have a degree?  any special training?  prior employment?  Get as much info as you can!

Heh, heh, she has a psychology major and a minor in women's studies. I don't know what "Women's Studies" is, but I think they sit around and talk about how oppressed they are, and how lucky they are to have vaginas..

Someone here told me that people become psychologists to fix themselves, I told that to the DH, he laughed..

Look up various jobs with a psychology major and what the going rate is.  If she has the qualifications, her income should be computed as to what she is capable of earning.

Also check with Labor and Industry in your area to see if she is a joint parnter OR if she is listed as the VP of the company, if so she is employed, and is entitled to 50% of new hubbys income therefore makes 50% of that.

I know in my state you can see whom a business is registered too

Usually, it's a SEcretary of State office that hold the State Articles of Incorporation of the business and where they file their annual report for the corporation.  If she's listed as an officer of the corporation, you got her for earning big money!!!
