Does anyone know how to go about filing paperwork without an attorney to let the child of age choose to change which parent he wants to live with in a joint custody situation?

In most states a child under 18 does not get to choose (with the exception of Georgia that I know of). Check with your local court, but you might need a guardian ad litem (atty for child) to voice their wishes in court, and then it's up to the judge to determine if the reasons are valid or a significant change has occurred in the child's life.

Most judges will hear what a child of 12 or 13 has to say.

Unless the parents agree to the change, it could be an uphill climb with such a change.
