hi everyone, needing some advice.new to all of this. i live in nc my child is in wv. i  opened the child support case on myself. there is an order in place for support and for me to provide medical.problem now is the bio mother is refusing me visits unless its under her terms which are supervised visits in her home always.never wants me to take my child anywhere.so i realize there is no compromising with her.so what are the steps i take to file for visitation? is there a way to do it without a lawyer or should i get a lawyer? just a little insight my child is 11 and never knew she was mine until last year.i went to my local child support office for help to get a dna done because mother was refusing to do one.so thats why i was agreeing to the visits in bio mother's home figured my child needed to get to know me somewhat first but the visits are going no where with the tension of being in bio mother's home and .thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.

Hire a Lawyer, unless you can walk into a court room knowing ALL of the laws you WILL get bent over backwards.

Read everything on this site, it will help.
Someone has all the links, they will post them.

Do NOT do visits in bm's home, you are opening yourself up to false accusations when you go to court.

thanks for the advice. i know in my heart i am trying to do the right thing.i have tried in every way to get along with the mother. but she just wants it her way or no way. she even said to me that she told our child that i was going to court for visitations and he going to take you for the summer and that our child said she didn't want to go. then the mother says to me "i guess you want to force her and then she is only going to hate you" and of course i don't want my child to hate me but i do want time with her so our relationship can grow. because right now its going nowhere because mom is always supervising it. it hurts me to think my child will hate me for wanting more time with her.

One of the first things you'll hear around here is "Document, document, document!". Having good records is *crucial*. Get yourself either the Parenting Time Tracker (PTT) at: http://www.deltabravo.net/custody/tracker.htm or the OPTIMAL Custody Tracking service at: http://www.parentingtime.net. The PTT is good, but the OPTIMAL service is definitely better.
