Title: Trying to file for joint custody of my 6 month old boy.
Post by: MelloFello on Apr 13, 2009, 06:28:07 PM
Hello,

I'm a 25 year old man who is trying to gain joint custody of my son because his mother doesn't want agree that we keep him an equal amount of time. I work, have my own place, and I have a four year old son that already lives with me. I would like to know how I can go about filing for joint custody for my son without the expense of an attorney. I know I may still have to pay some filing fee's and court cost but I'm just not sure as to how to start the process. Which court do I file at, small claims or district?

You file with family court and it depends on the state if there is a fee. You would be asking for joint legal AND physical if you want half the time too. It is very hard to get half the time so be prepared if the mother is going to fight it. Look through this site and ask questions....
