I am the father of a 10 year old child living in Portland Oregan with her mother who has custody. The child wishes to live with me in Minnesota. At what age is the child allowed to decided for herself where she would like to live. I belive it is 12 in Minesota with court approval. Any help in finding this information would be helpful.
Thank You
No child is allowed to "choose", for the simple reason that she may THINK she wants to live with you, then get there, not like it, and change her mind. This goes for any age. They may, however, tell the court what they prefer and why. This counts for a point on your side, but you'd have to prove that this is in her best interest for all the others issues that apply to "the best interest of the child" as determined by your court.

They get to choose at 18.
