If parents are willing to share 50/50 physical and legal custody of child, will one still be named as the primary custodian?
No, you ask for joint PHYSICAL and joint LEGAL custody. Sometimes if you are not in same school district, one parent will be named for home school purposes only.

I don't know about your state, but in WA one parent is always named the "Primary Residential Parent" (PRP) even in cases where everything is 50/50. Mostly it's just an address thing, but I believe it does carry some weight in court.
