First off, your bf needs to see an attorney.  I have never, ever heard of reserve regarding custody.  Depending on the age of the child, how long it has been since he has seen him, any criminal background he may have, depends on whether he gets supervised or unsupervised visits, likely at his expense entirely.  See an attorney to get more info...and perhaps a few others on here have an idea or two...
