Title: Computer Geeks, Need your help!
Post by: nosonew on May 27, 2004, 12:50:03 PM
Our bm refuses to communicate with us per c.o. emails.  It is ordered for each parent to check emails every 72 hours and respond appropriately.  We send emails that go unanswered, then she swears she 1. Either didn't get it or 2. Hasn't checked her email.

This is what I want:

1.  I want to know if there is something I can use in my email that tells me WHEN she opens her email.  If she is aware of this, she will NOT open her email or click any forms that state she is to inform us she is opening her email.  Our email we use ONLY for her is a yahoo.com email.  If we need to change to something different, we will do it in a heartbeat!

HELP! Is there anything out there like this?

Where could I possibly look for this???

Thanks, nosonew...
Title: Brand spanking new web site service that does this

heard about it on the news yesterday, causing quite the riot about privacy invasion

http://www.didtheyreadit.com/

I think it's pretty cool and I think anyone dealing with a PBFH via email on this board should sign up right now!

Would love to shove this evidence up a judge's nose when the PBFH says they haven't heard from the father!  Should drop quite a few jaws in family court!

Please note that this is easily defeated and far from foolproof. However, it may work in enough instances to make it worth trying. There are several other services like this, but they all have the same weaknesses. Fortunately many of the people you would want to use this on are not tech-savvy enough to prevent it from working (or even to know itheir mail is being tracked).

Thanks, another friend sent me a site that actually does "certified email receipts", and the our bm won't know she is being tracked.  The one I am doing tracks how long on the email, if it is forwarded, copied, printed, etc.  And I can delete my email at any time too!  I am sooo impressed.  After the first month it costs a small bit, but I would be more than willing to pay 10x that amt for the satisfaction of knowing what I need to know!  Thanks!
Title: Brent, question...
Post by: nosonew on May 27, 2004, 02:47:30 PM
the site I am going to use is readnotify.com---it states it does not use spyware, so she likely will not know, correct? She is not very computer literate, and doesn't use her computer very much (according to her anyway).  I think she bought her first computer in 95 or something, and didn't update until last year!  Thanks!

If she's not familiar with PC's, she probably wouldn't have a clue.

I have purchased readnotify and have to say,, I am impressed.

I have sent test mails with tracking, certified and registered, it tracks when it hits the inbox,, when opened EACH time and how long the mail was open. I can block copy, forward, and print. It is retractable, or I can set it to erase after opening and specify how long it has before erasure.

The cost per year is 36 bux......not bad at all.

pd, did you just now get it or have you had it for awhile?  I have tested it too, but not the retractability part.  May have to play with that tomorrow!  And 36 bucks will be well worth it!

Yeah,, just got it. I tried the retraction,, it works.   So does the self destruct mode.

I think I read on their site that they could give a certified receipt also.  This would certainly help some that need to prove emails in court!
