Title: Guardianship
Post by: Sasha81 on Jul 08, 2004, 01:47:16 PM
I don't even know how to start this.  I am trying to get my little sister (16), I am 23, to be able to finish highschool up where I live.  Right now she is living at a friends house in Illinois and I live in Milwaukee.  My mother is completely incompetent as a parent and is living with my father and his wife in Arkansas.  My objective is to get legal guardianship of her so that I have control and my mother no longer does.  My mother had agreed to relinquish her rights, but I am not sure where to start nor can I afford an attorney.  Does anyone have any advice on where I might start?  I would really appreciate any help that someone could offer.  Also, my mother owes my sisters school over $700 dollars and I was wondering if anyone knew that if I became her guardian would the debt be able to be forgiven so that she can have her transcripts transferred?

Sasha,

Post this on Soc's board, he if anyone would know what to do. Make sure to follow his postings guidelines.

Your sister is lucky to have someone that cares for her so much.
