Title: Can my ex-wife obtain credit using my childrens ss#?
Post by: onedaddy on Jul 08, 2004, 02:47:11 PM
I've heard so much about identity theft.  My ex-wife and her husband are in serious debt even after I helped out, both unemployed and continue to spend, spend, spend. They couldn't possibly still be getting credit cards, they are well over 50,000 in credit card debts alone and these are in default.  They're desperate and I wouldn't hold anyhting past them.  How can I find out if they are using our children's ss# to obtain credit?  They are very young 7 and 4

Don't know what to tell you there. Did you go to the major credit reporting agencies websites? (TransUnion, Experian and there's one other one who's name escapes me at the moment!) Maybe try using your children's SS #s with your wife's date of birth?

what about contacting the reporting agencies as a parent looking into the minor's activity.  don't know why you couldn't do that.  tell them you're worried about fraud.
