Best way to know that is to look at the person's body language, eye movement, etc. when they're talking to you. Most people give away when they're lying, but usually the observer is too involved in the conversation to notice. But, I think as long as you haven't done something massively overbearing during the process, like telling the GAL that you think the mother should be thrown in front of a speeding train, I think you're gonna get more than what the GAL recommends, because I think the judge will be real tired of the whole affair.
