I have 50 percent custody of my child. We have joint physical and joint legal custody. She spends one week with me and one week with her mother, etc. And I have the legal right to claim my child on my taxes.
During this whole custody issue I'm dealing with, I keep being refered to as the "NON-CUSTODIAL" parent and my ex keeps being refured to as the custodial parent.
Why is it automaticly assumed that I am the non-custodial parent, when I have 50 percent custody of my child and we have joint legal and phycial custody?? Am I assumed to be the "non-custodial" parent because I am a male??
I really would like to understand things better because I think it's totaly unfair that I am being labled the non-custodial parent when I have a right to be called the custodial parent.
Anyone have any awsners??
You are considered the non custodial because you have the support obligation.

But yo umight want to correct them and say "Joint custodial"
