I'm a new father and have found myself in quite a bind and in need of a good starting point.

My son was born in Canada but both Mom and myself are U.S. Citizens.  Mom decided that life was good up in Canada and decided to go finish school up there while I worked in the U.S.  Things then went south and I'm stuck without any options on how to see my kid or establish custody.  I don't even know how to begin paying child support, or if I have any rights at all since my child is a Canadian citizen and lives in Canada.

1. How do I begin to establish a legal framework for laying my rights to see and be responsible for my kid's welfare?

2. How do I go about making him an American citizen?

Mom is adamantly trying to keep me from having any jurisdiction at all over my son and won't approve or sign documents that begin to lay this groundwork.  How can this be done without her cooperation, which I'm not going to find?

I'm hopelessly lost in this and really could use a guiding hand.

Thanks.
