Father's Issues / Re: Not sure what to do

I agree with what Kent says, and I would DEFINITELY video the exchange or meeting. Use a phone or get a bodycam but video these exchanges to protect yourself.

If she agrees to meet, try and scope out a location that has a CCTV. Just for your protection, so she can't claim after the visit that you behaved inappropriately.

Father's Issues / Re: Where to begin...

Quote from: PeeDeeThree on Jan 15, 2015, 08:07:27 AMMy questions...
1. Is this a big enough deal to go to court and wrestle custody of my son from her, or do the courts still radically favor the mother?
2. My daughter isn't covered by insurance, since it's an underage pregnancy. Does that put me on the hook for the medical bills, is her mother liable as primary custodial parent, or are my daughter and her boyfriend stuck with the responsibility to pay the bills?

1) It's probably not worth going to court over this. The courts still favor the mother, but that probably wouldn't be a factor in this case. You'd have to show that this somehow puts your son at serious risk and it's unlikely that you could actually do that to the court's satisfaction. Have a look at "Defining Substantial Change In Circumstances (http://deltabravo.net/cms/plugins/content/content.php?content.178)" for more on this. This search for "change custody" (http://deltabravo.net/cms/search.php?q=change+custody&r=0&s=Search&in=&ex=&ep=&be=&t=all&adv=0) might also show some articles with useful information.

2) You might be held responsible for the medical expenses but it's hard to say what the court would do, especially with medical expenses like this. If they try and stick you with the bills then I think it might be worth fighting it in court. If I had to guess I'd say they would probably try and make you pay for some or all of them.

3) In my opinion not pursuing child support is a mistake; it sets a precedent that would be hard to overcome should you decide you need to do so later. If she owes you child support then she should be paying it. If you owed her child support would she let it slide?

It is, and they do. :)

I started NWGT for a buddy who wants to sell some firearms.

Welcome, MadamAgatha.

There are people here who'll be glad to talk with you. :)

You might also want to post in the General Custody Issues (http://deltabravo.net/forum/index.php?board=4.0) message board to get started.

Cheers

I'm the first of my friends to do this so it's hard to find people who can relate :(

My divorce is not yet finalized but I still feel like I've been run over by a bus. There seems to be a lot of resources for dads but few for moms (and I happen to be located in a place that gives 50/50 by default no matter what the circumstances).

I just wish I had someone to talk to...

You might want to look in to the Intent To Exercise Visitation (http://deltabravo.net/cms/plugins/content/content.php?content.118) letter, perhaps for future use.

Search the site for "statistics (http://deltabravo.net/cms/search.php?q=statistics&s=Search&r=0)" and I'm pretty sure you'll find something. Alternatively you could search Google for some more recent studies and stats.

On the homepage, the following is stated, "Statistics show that custodial fathers are the most likely to encourage a positive relationship between their children and the other parent and to raise happy, healthy children."

Where can these statistics be found?

If parents are willing to share 50/50 physical and legal custody of child, will one still be named as the primary custodian?

I don't know about your state, but in WA one parent is always named the "Primary Residential Parent" (PRP) even in cases where everything is 50/50. Mostly it's just an address thing, but I believe it does carry some weight in court.

Remember "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo (http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/here-comes-honey-boo-boo)", the dreadful show about a family of inbred goober rednecks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_Comes_Honey_Boo_Boo) that was a spinoff from the equally dreadful show "Toddlers And Tiaras (http://www.tlc.com/tv-shows/toddlers-tiaras)"?

Well, good ol' "Mama June" is back in the news....she's being prosecuted for not paying child support for the daughter who was molested.

Mama June Prosecuted for Not Paying Child Support for Molested Daughter (http://www.tmz.com/2014/11/14/mama-june-child-support-daughter-anna-chickadee-child-molester/)

Mama June stiffed the woman who took care of June's daughter after she was molested by June's boyfriend ... this according to Georgia prosecutors who filed a criminal case against her.

June's mother, Sandra Hale, became the guardian of Anna/aka Chickadee in 2003, a year after Mark McDaniel forced the girl (who was 8 at the time) to perform oral sex on him (http://www.tmz.com/2014/10/24/mama-june-child-molestation-anna-mark-mcdaniel-honey-boo-boo-dating/).

When the guardianship was created, June was required to pay her mom $100 a month in child support. But fast forward to 2009, when the Henry County D.A. filed criminal contempt charges against June, claiming she was way behind on her payments -- $4,144.62 behind.

According to legal docs -- obtained by TMZ -- June was behind "due to willful and continuous refusal to comply."

The D.A. threatened her with jail if she didn't pay. The mug shot was taken in the contempt case.

The D.A. dismissed the contempt charge 3 months after it was filed ... presumably because June belatedly paid.
