Social Security background checks

By any chance does anyone know where I can go or who I can talk to about having someones SSN run to use a background check (i.e. marriages, divorces, bankruptcy, etc.)

Thanks for the great tip!  We did sign up for Net Detective awhile ago, but  found very little helpful information.  Before we shell out the money for these reports, are there people out there that can verify that this particular service is worth the bucks?  Thanks
