Hi everyone, I am a new member here. My son just began his custody evaluation yesterday before the court appointed Dr. He showed up, but his ex-wife didn't, she called that morning to say she couldn't make it. Will the fact that she didn't bother to go make any differnce to the Dr.? The evaluation proceeded as planned, with my son having the interview, then taking a MMPI test. Has anyone here been through an eval before? Thanks so much for reading this post, and any info you may have for him.  Sincerely, Cara

I am going through the same thing.   It depends on what test the evaluator wants to use.  Click on the word "custody evaluator" right here and it will take you to a site that has is a  great reference tool  The evaluator we have used has followed it to a T.

Tell your son not to go in bashing mom.  Tell him to state any concerns he has on mom with documentation and reiterate to the evaluator that the child needs both parents, but to stress the qualities that he brings to the table and why he is the better parent.

What kind of custody is he seeking?

Hello B-Ball, and thank you for replying to my post.  The only test I know of so far is the MMPI. He goes in next week with his wife, then the week after that with his wife, son and little step-daughter. Whether he will have a session with his ex-wife he doesn't know, since she canceled the first one. He has shared parenting now, his five year old spends Thursday through Sunday evening with him every week, then goes home to his mom for the remainder.  It has been this way since she left them when his son was 8 months old. Since he will be starting school this fall, this arrangement won't work any longer. My son is asking to have him from Monday through Friday, so he will go to school from his house. Mom would then pick him up after school Friday and have him the weekend. He is doing this because she is very irresponsible, with drinking, drugs and very violent "friends" she runs around with. At his custody eval Monday, he conveyed his concerns about some issues, the violence his little boy is around, but he did do it with tact. He said that the Dr. didn't seem to care one way or the other about the police reports he offered to give her. It is tearing his little boy apart though, the change in him has been so drastic since this all started. My son felt from the beginning that his child should be kept completely out of it, but she and her family have seen to it that he knows everything that is going on, and he is now becoming very hateful towards his stepmom and little sister.  (Not to mention the sadness in his little face) Lot's of hitting and "I hate you's" How long did your eval take? I hope it has or will end well for you and your family. Thanks again, and I will look over the info here some more.

It is still going on and it has been 3 months.   I expect it to last another month or 2.   The psychologist we are using though is very busy and hard to get into see.

Thanks and may God bless you and your family too!!!!!!!!
