I'm not sure if there is anything I can really do here but I just need to vent.

Quick background b/c I only post once every 6 months or so...

Son 2 1/2 years old.  Mother and I never married.  She now lives with her mother.  PArenting time is terrific.  There haven't been problems in a while.  I see my son Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, EOW and any extra time I ask for.  Here is my problem today...

I picked up my son yesterday and was invited into the home while she got him ready.  The Grandmother I assume was not expecting me to come in b/c when I did there was a huge cloud of smoke hovering over her head.  THe place reaked(sp) or cigarrette smoke and my 2 year old son is running around in this.

I didn't say anything at the time.  LAter that night I spoke to my ex.  I explained my problem and her reaction was "it's not my house, I can't tell my mom what to do".  I knew her mom smoked but it was made clear to me that it was never around my son; that she would go outside.  I dont' know if there is anything I can do, should do?  ANy advice would be good.  If you have none, thank you for reading my complaint.

Don't blow the good relationship and chance losing time with your son.

Buy an air cleaner which also has an ionizer. You can buy a pretty good one for about $50. Mine also has a hepa filter. Mother's Day is just around the corner, you could use that for an excuse.

If you feel you need more then this, there are several good sites in regard to smoking that I can pass your way.

But I would take the high road and just buy the air cleaner. Will save a lot of hassle...

Unless your son is suffering from some respiratory problem that can be directly linked to the smoking, you don't have a chance to fight this in court.  Get the air filtration system and call it good.

But considering your son's age, I would VERY carefully watch his health.  Young children nowadays seem to be more susceptible to asthma and other respiratory diseases.  If he develops anything, have him evaluated by a pediatric respiratory specialist, NOT a GP pediatrician.
Handle every stressful situation like a dog........if you can't play with it or eat it, pee on it and walk away.......

I'd be afraid for you that if Grandma kicked mom out of the house, mom would cut back on your visitations.

Help mom out and buy some ionizers for her to use at her mother's house.  People can get defensive if criticized about something they can do nothing about.  Buy helping mom out with this, it should go along way in your goodwill with her and payoff by strengthening your relationship with her.

And as Kitty recommended, watch your child's health.
