Help for a deployed father

Hi all,
My husband is deployed in Iraq.  His ex is blocking his attempts to communicate with his kids.  His 17-year old can check email but does
not respond often...typical 17-year old who has heard all kinds of
smack about his father.  His 9-year old is not encouraged to write him,
email him or even think about him (according to the 22-year old daughter).

DH asked the ex to let the 9-year old come to our house and video chat with him.  She responded that the boy will not be allowed to come to our house until his father is home.

So now what?  My husband has spoken to the 9-year old maybe 3 times in 4 months.  He has received no letters or email from him...well, there was the 1 email sent by the older boy with the younger's birthday wish list.  :(

I would appreciate any suggestions on what my husband could do.  He will be home for mid-tour leave late this summer.  He does not return for good until early 2006.

Thanks,
Lucille

Maybe she can offer to make a card or something with SS (covertly) to send to his dad. Maybe go to a craft store with him and start making things at a park or library and then get him to join in on the letter?

I know its not nice to get the 22 year old involved, but it sounds like she is wise to the situation.

Good Luck
