I recently learned I had a son with an old girlfriend, he is now 16yrs old. I would like to have him live with me (mother agreed), but his mother says that if I acknowledge that he is my son, since she was on welfare when she had him, the state will come after me for any and all charges.  Is this true, after all this time do I have to worry?

I would consult with an attorney familiiar with your local laws. There's too much at stake.

Your answers are found in state and local laws.

Doesn't mean he can't come live with you....

... the ole girlfreind is correct and you could very well end up paying into the welfare system, 16 years of back child support and attorney fees.
