Hi,
My name is Toni and I am looking for an answer to my question. I hope that someone can help me ASAP.
My boyfriend has a little girl in SC and the mother has apparently signed over her rights to the grandparents, her parents. My boyfriend wants his little girl but did not want to take her away from the mother. Now if this is all true and she has signed over her rights, what does my boyfriend have to do to get full custody of his daughter? Does he need to go to court to get her and everything changed legally or can he just go and get her since she is his? I have had a lot of different answers to this question is why I have come here.
They have not been to court for visitation or anything so there are no court papers giving her full custody or him no visitation rights. He has had a paternity test done that proves she is his daughter. He has not signed over his rights so what can we do to bring that little girl here with us where she belongs? She is only a year old.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have asked this on another board also and would love to hear what you have to say.

Thank you!

Hi,
Did she give custody to the grandma through the courts or just drop them off there? Where is the mother now? Is she seeing them? Is this a temporary thing? He really needs to get into court and start visitation and then maybe he could ask for a long summer visit? If mom is still in picture, it will proabably be hard to get custody and be allowed to leave the state but at the very least you can get a visitation schedule out of it. Call the county court house and see if they will send you the paperwork to get a court date. If you could afford a lawyer, this is the time to do it. (Look around this site for vistation schedules...be detailed as possible and put in what happens when child is school age, holidays, summer, exact dates, can child fly alone at what age....everything you can think of. Easier to do it the first time then have to go back). Good luck!

"Did she give custody to the grandma through the courts or just drop them off there?"--All we know is that she signed over her rights to her parents. It did not go through the courts. "Where is the mother now? Is she seeing them?"--She is living in a shed out in the middle of nowhere with no power, water, etc.. She is an addict and I do not think she sees her daughter anymore. Although, I am unsure of that part.

Thank you so much for your help.
