SS with increasing social problems

SS (7) has had increasing social problems and declining grades throughout this school year.  He had the beginnings of problems last year, but everyone involved thought that they were resolved.  This year, his grades are hideous, his behavior in school is poor, and BM is keeping him home for "illnesses" that most kids would go to school through  (i.e.: he was home for a week for a cold).  At the 18 week mark, he had missed 20 days of school.  Additionally, according to BM, she is now working 3 jobs and SS is being left at home with her live-in boyfriend.

We live in PA, and are wondering if this would be grounds to change custody arrangements to allow us to have SS for the week during the school year.  We are hoping to take him out of his public school where he has had these problems and place him in private school.  Do we have any hope?  Has anyone had any luck in a similar situation?

Yes, it is very good grounds to ask for a custody change.
