Tax Records of Parents Who Don't Pay Child Support May Be Opened

(Springfield-AP) -- Prosecutors soon might be able to peek into the tax
records of people they think are lying about their income to avoid
child-support payments.

An Illinois House committee approved a bill today that would let state's
attorneys obtain tax returns from the Illinois Department of Revenue.

The returns would be used to determine a parent's income and whether they
are meeting their child-support obligations.

The bill now goes to the full House.

The committee also rejected legislation to allow support payments to be
withdrawn automatically from a self-employed parent's checking account.

Lawmakers said the bill should spell out whether someone could be forced
to sign up for automatic withdrawal.

Not to take away from the seriousness of this post but please consider the following :

1).  State Attorneys will be to busy enforcing the Unlawful Visitation Interference criminal statues ( 720 ILCS 5/10-5.5 ) to concern itself with putting more money into the state government pockets under the disquise of CS.

2).  DOR probably couldn't find a return.

On the other hand, "the best politians money can buy" ... one of my uncles useta have that inscribed on a ball cap ... need to find a way to pay for that DCFS  $ 42,000,000.00 off-the-shelf software package that did not work.

Let's hope other states do not follow Illinois in anything dealing with children.  Illinois was singled out in a book entitled "Our Endangered Children" (1983; Vance Packard) as a haven for mothers obtaining favorable custody rulings even without jurisdiction (Parental Abductions).
