Community Think-tank to Sponsor Town Hall Forum on Divorce, Shared Parenting, and Domestic Violence.

 
(CHICAGO) PRWeb – January 3, 2006 – Dialogue on Sustainable Community, a nonpartisan public interest Think-tank will be hosting a Community Town Hall Forum on Saturday, January 14, 2006, from 1:00-5:00pm at Ida Noyes Auditorium at the University of Chicago to discuss public policy issues related to divorce, parental rights, shared parenting, domestic violence, and the societal impact on communities and families.

Participating in the discussion will be several subject matter experts, including Dr. Kirk Harris, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Family Support America; Jerry Stermer, President, Voices for Illinois Children; Margaret Stapleton, Senior Counsel, Sargent Shriver National Poverty Law Center, Gail Smith, Chicago Legal Advocacy for Incarcerated Mothers (CLAIM), Diane Redleaf, representing counsel in the Landmark Dupuy v. Samuels class-action case and Founder of the Family Defense Center; Michael McCormick, Executive Director, American Coalition for Fathers and Children; Dean Tong, nationally recognized Forensic Consultant and expert on false abuse allegations, and others.

Topics of discussion include: the history of our domestic relations courts, family and community stresses, evidentiary standards, false abuse allegations in the context of domestic violence, prevailing elements for family support after divorce, and shared parenting strategies to help minimize conflict.

Moderating the discussion will be Dr. Mark Rogers, a clinical psychotherapist and child custody expert. Dr. Rogers is also an adjunct instructor at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and is known for his involvement in the Elian Gonzales case.

Invited guests include: Lieutenant Governor Pat Quinn, Maggie Daley, After School Matters; ACLU of Illinois, Voices for Illinois Children, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Chicago Urban League, Chicago Chapter of the National Organization for Women, Shattered Men, Inc., Senator Richard Durbin, Senator Barack Obama, local media, state lawmakers, and others.


Admission: $10.00 with RSVP, $15.00 at the door.
