Residency????

I am new to this and if anyone out there has info, I would be grateful for some advice!?  My ex husband has 'residency' of my children as I left the matrimonal home and had no fixed abode for 4 months and then the council housed me in a one bedroom flat.  As I have 4 children this has never been adequate accomodation, however I should soon be moving to a 3 bedroom masonette, which is plenty big enough for my kids.  They are all saying that they want to live with me, they are unhappy with the situation at home - however, does anyone know at what age my kids can have a say on where they live.  Their ages are 16, 14, 12 and 8yrs??
