Advice On How To Best Handle Moving & Visitation

hi everyone.

we are having lots of problems with bm...but they will hopefully soon be resolved via court.

we have also been seriously considering moving to Charleston, SC - dh's daughter lives near NYC.  right now he has visitation on alternate weekends/alternate holidays ect.

what is the best way to go about getting visitation changed in the event we do move.  we know that lots of judges would allow daughter visitation on school holidays (she is almost 7) and all summer as opposed the way the arrangements are now.  We already know that bm wouldn't just allow this - we will have to ask the judge to decide.

we don't want to be premature in that, since we are in the middle on filing a motion to fix other problems....we don't want to throw us moving into the mix just yet. we were thinking to go to court, get the current problems fixed and then we would have to go back and deal with this moving issue.

so - when we are ready to deal with this issue, my questions are;

should we go to court 1st and tell them we are planning on moving on such and such date and ask for a revised parenting plan?

or would it be better to do after we move?

also, we aren't asking for full custody...so there should be no all out war here.  dh just wants to see his daughter as is his right, and her need.

thanks

Will this move make you closer to the child or farther away?

Because the "potential move date" is so far in the future, anything could happen.  I would deal with the current issues, and deal with issues regarding the move when they arise.
