Here's a quick one:

When the court says you have so many days to do something (like file a damn appeal) do they count business days or calendar days?

Note: We all live in MA.

Thanks

I believe it would be business days

Really? I would have thought calendar days - since not all businesses follow the same schedule, the only way to be 100% clear would be to use calendar days.

I'd call the courthouse and ask.

In my state, it is CALENDAR DAYS. If someone is served on September 20 with a motion, and they have 30 days to which to respond, then their answer must be filed with both the court and put in the mail to the mover by October 20, OR the next day following in which the courthouse is open for business.

Better off to call the courthouse and see for sure. Here's an extra wrench in the works: In the area I live in, there's also something called "mailbox days". I haven't a clue how they figure this, but if you add business days to mailbox days, you might end up with 5-6 weeks instead of 30 calendar days.
