Moving to be closer to my son

I am interviewing for a position in Spokane where my son is.  I realize that I need to be closer to him since I don't have the $$ for the travel.

Should I adress this in any way in my custody negotiations?

Should I even let them know that I am looking at moving?

If you move to Spokane, you will suddenly have a huge advantage in the court. The judge will think, "This guy isn't gonna allow his child to be foiled by a vindictive ex -- he deserves more parenting time."

However, I wouldn't raise the issue unless I were certain that I had employment in Spokane, because you could start a snowstorm and then not have the plow to clean up with.

Yes, after you are certain that you are. You could tell them that you are applying for a position in Spokane, but it won't have much teeth until you actually move...AND, suppose that your ex gets up and goes somewhere else? Even if there's a restraining order in place, the fact that she moves could really cause you some financial/emotional pain.

I think I might just keep the matter quiet until I was actually moved to Spokane.

Well.....

She just called.  I let my parents know that I was applied for a position in Spokane.  Friends of friends of friends, and the word got to the soon-to-be-ex.

She called and said she forbid me to move.  And that even if I did, her boyfriend was still going to keep our son when she was at work (she works from 2pm to 10pm)

She went on to say that she was sending the movies (of our son and me) back because she didn't want them in her house.  I just sent the movies to him yesterday.

I love it: she forbids you to move!!!!!!

The nerve of some people. As I recall this is still the good ole US of A and you are a free man.

Go, be with your son and the best of luck!
