Judge recently ordered that only wife is to exchange the kids, that all her family members must remain in car and are not to approach fathers vehicle. Now the father has taken to prop a camera on the steering wheel. This cause the kids to ask WHY ? 1st, the court clearly saw stbx's parents as highly confrontational and borderline dangerous or he wouldn't creat an order so specific relating to them staying in their cars, etc. Problem is these people are just "nuts", this will get worse unless the judge specifically eliminates them from even being present. Suggestions ?? Oh this is in Va

If they got out of the car after the order was written. go back on contempt and ask to exchange at a police station. Maybe at the next exchange ask for the police to be there for the exchange. Bring your order and see what happens. If you are close enough to their school ask to pick them up there. Just be very simple with the kids...Tell them you will take care of it and not to worry, you love them very much.

MixedBag

Take your most current order with you.

As the local police department that has jurisdiction over the location of the exchange to do a civil standby.  Explain that the other side is not following the order and that you are afraid that the situation will escolate into a criminal offense.

Explain to the kids that the camera is or was there to protect everyone who is present because video tapes don't lie.

Then -- how old are the kids???

Is there any way you can say your good byes before you get there and just let the kids get out of the car and go over to the other parent?

If they have to take stuff back and forth -- can it be minimal so that they can carry it?

This eliminates a lot.....and doesn't open you wide up to them being aggressive.

I could go on.....but I think you get the idea.

Kids are 3 & 6. The camera is not there to protect me or the kids, if it was mine it would. In this case it is simply being done to try and be confrontational, but it is not a big concern. Last time I asked to receive copies in 8x10............
Police here will not have anything to do with exchanges at all, I have tried.

Then go back to the judge and state that the parents are still interfering with the exchange and you wish for the exchange to occur between just you and your ex and for it to occur at a police station.

I would think most judges would accept that. If there's a signed order from a judge, the police aren't going to refuse to let you use the police station for the exchange.
