Anti-male attitude reflected in American crime shows

In a recent episode of the American crime show, CSI, the police apprehended a man who had viciously beaten to death his wife's boss because, according to the investigators, the boss was the father of his wife's child.

The police and prosecutors were a bit ho-hum about it. Just a male beating another male to death. Serve the boss right for taking advantage of a female employee.  The murderer wasn't such a bad guy - he was only defending his wife's honour. So the prosecutors negotiated a guilty plea to lesser charge resulting in fours years jail for the murderer.

Later in the story, the police were a little miffed to find that the boss was an innocent party, he did not have sex with the employee. Never mind, these things happen.

Then the police found out that the murderer had been having sex with his 13-year-old step-daughter. Suddenly the investigators were galvanised into action. Now this was a serious crime.

"Now we've got him" said the grim-faced prosecutor, "the penalty for rape of a minor in the State of Nevada is a mandatory life sentence without parole".

Four years for beating a male to death - life for rape (or sex) with an under-age girl - seems fair.
