Today I had my mod. hearing with the agency. It went as I expected it to. Nothing was resolved other than I learned that my insurance was not taken into consideration, they didn't realize what med on my pay stub stood for ins. My current order is to pay 450 but I pay 475 ...4 years ago I got behind 200 bucks so the judge added an extra 25 on til it was paid off but it has been taken out ever since..today I called to stop that.
I moved to SD from OH. ,in doing so this allowed my new wife to take time off as a nurse to rear the baby because I got an increase in pay and I couldn't afford to do so on my pay in Oh. so I get the letter ..respond.. get the letter back... its going up to 595.....nope can't handle it.. requested the hearing..heres why, I have to carry out of plan insurance for my son ..he's not here . That cost me an extra lets say a 100 bucks...a month...there's more.. my son is here twice a year at an average of 600 bucks a flight because its always an argument as to If she will allow him on the plane alone...so the price goes up daily ....he's 12 I have to pay 75 extra both ways for an escort... he's here all summer..approximately 75 to 80 days...for me thats 25% of the year..I pay happily..but the killer is that not only does my son come but I allow her son to be here too all summer long ..pay for there own room at hotels when we leave town entrtain him...parks water amusement...and food.. he is now 14 need I say more

Maybe I could make some sense out of your post and what you're looking for if you use them.

I think I can answer your question as to why:  because the court doesn't care about all of that stuff, and hasn't required you to do it.  They don't care about all the additional stuff you do "out of the goodness of your heart".  You also voluntarily moved from SD to Ohio.  The court will not punish the other parent for that by forcing them to pay for a flight to visit you, or because you now have additional insurance costs due to your voluntary move.  I understand that you're upset, but you should have seen this coming.  The court saw that you had an increase in pay, so you get an increase in support.  Plain and simple.

Now, some options:

In some states you can get the support amount reduced a little bit if you have other children to provide for, did they take that into consideration?

Another option you have is to get the transportation stuff clarified by the court.  There should be an agreement stating when he will come, what the acceptable forms of transportation are, if he needs to be escorted, and who can escort.  This will alleviate the arguing and allow you to purchase plane tickets when they are the most affordable instead of the last minute.

You also don't *have* to pay for the other child to come.  That is a choice and if you can't afford it, you can't afford it.  If your ex wants him to go she can help pay for it.

Another option you have is applying for a credit card that will give you points towards airline miles.  You'd be surprised how quickly those can add up, and you could conceptually save up enough for a free ticket every year with it.

Good luck

First, the insurance that you pay should definitely be considered when determining child support.

Some courts will have the parent who moved away pay for all transportation costs.  Some will factor it into child support.
