Reimbursement Checks not being cashed

Per court order, I am required to reimburse EX for gasoline expenses when he has to pick up our son from the airport.  I sent EX a personal check for reimbursement via priority confirmed delivery.  UPS says it was delivered 1/11/06.  Check still hasn't cleared my account.

1.  How long do you recommend I wait?

2.  And what action would you recommend?

may I send you an e-mail since my EX reads the boards with some more background?

There's nothing to wait for. You sent a check. If the other parent doesn't cash it that's not your problem. Just keep your proof of mailing.

Per court order, I am to start paying CS on the first and 15th of the month beginning March 1st.  (CS was suspended for a while, so I stopped my electronic allotment which was in place).

It was not ordered to be paid through any state agency, directly to dad.  I have no problem with that.

So, what do I do if dad starts "sitting on" those checks?

Not legal advice, just SM advice....
If the problem is that he's messing with your accounting by "sitting" on the cheques, would it be easier to pay your branch the $0.50 (or whatever their fee is), and get a draft made?  That way the money clears your account same day, and he can sit on it as long as he wants, you won't be affected?

(Either that or find out his account number and transfer funds directly into his account in the exact amount and date of the order?).  Not necessarily setting up an automatic transfer, just transferring each time?

Soc will know if either of these could backfire from a traceability point of view, I'm just looking at it from a "get him out of my accounting" point of view.

Maybe you need a seperate checking account for cs and transportation costs. That way you deposit the money and never touch it again. It wouldn't suprise me if he is waiting to get a huge amount accumilated and cash the checks all at once thinking you will forget what is still outstanding, and they will bounce. Then he can try to get you for writing bad checks and you will have a huge overdraft fee.

This is a little paranoid, in my opinion. Don't look for an evil motive -- it's mentally debilitating. Better, to simply set up your life so that you have protected yourself from obvious problems. So, I agree that a separate checking account for CS related matters may be a good move, if the objective is to keep accounts managable.

This is my own experience...One thing my X started doing and it works great for the both of us...Is he started sending Money orders vs personal checks.  Not sure about your area, but in mine, there are places where I can get "Free" money orders.

You may even check with your bank and see if they offer free money orders and just send him that???  You would still have a receipt that it's paid and you wont have to worry about an outstanding check.
