MYSONSDAD

By David Frownfelder -- Daily Telegram Staff Writer

ADRIAN -- Dressed in Santa suits and braving icy winds, four men joined
other non-custodial parents at other court houses across Michigan in
protesting some policies of Friend of the Court. Brett Frye of Britton,
Robert Brothers of Ypsilanti, Dan Diebolt of Ann Arbor and Darren Brinkley
of Jackson spent the lunch hour Monday walking along North Main Street in
[Adrian in front of the Rex B Martin Judicial Building handing out fliers
and talking to passersby about divorce and custody.

[Telegram photo by Lad Strayer -- Robert Brothers of Ypsilanti and Darren
Brinkley of Jackson were protesting in front of the Rex B Martin Judicial
Building on Monday in Adrian to try to make people aware of fathers rights
issues. They will be part of a larger group protesting Friday in Lansing.]

"This is about equal access to our kids. It's all about time with our
kids," Frye said. "They paint all of us with the same broad brush. I love
my son and my daughter. But it takes two parents to raise kids."

The four will be taking part in a rally in Lansing Friday. A coalition of
groups under the banner of Family Rights will be meeting at the Lansing
Public Library at 9 a.m. and moving on to the Hall of Justice and the
state legislature to voice their concerns over issues related to divorce
and children's custody.

"The Uniform Parental Rights Enforcement Act creates a 50-50 shared
custody for both parents," said Diebolt. "We want to uphold our
Constitutional right that says you cannot be jailed for a debt and that's
just what (child) support is. But, that is played every Wednesday here (at
the Judicial Building) when they bring the guys (from jail) in chains into
the courtroom."

The four were carrying signs that said, "The Best Parent is Both Parents"
and "Children Need Both Parents" among other slogans. The coalition has a
web site at //www.mifoc.com.

Alot of great people in this organization.  Talk is cheap, whining is cheaper.  These parents and friends of parents are out picketing, contacting their political officials, filing a class action suit for JLC and making a difference.

There's a going to be a big demostration of Santa's outside the State House in Lansing Friday.  Keep these good souls in your thoughts and prayers.

Wished I lived closer, will be there in spirit!

Subject:  Updated Reminder to Santa Supporters...

It will be helpful if we can assemble a little before 11:00 am to brief
everyone on ground rules and schedules. Thanks to all who have indicated
their support!

Convenient parking in either the underground garage beneath the state house,
City Center Mall (1 block south)
or several garages on Front St (1 block west of High St, across from Ohio Supreme Court).

Call John Fowler or me with any questions.

Major Cain of the Salvation Army is very appreciative of our desire to
contribute especially since their collections are down nearly 20% from last
year due to the closure of Big Bear Stores and the ban on soliciting at
Target stores. They hope to raise an additional $500,000 to meet their
projected needs.

UPDATE! ! !

Save Father Christmas!

What: Santa demonstration to promote EQUAL PARENTING

Where: Ohio State House, Columbus

When: Friday December 17, 2004 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Required: Everyone who feels it is time to get active and show your support
for family law reform and EQUAL PARENTING.

If you don't have a Santa suit we will have a few extra hats and signs. The
important part is showing up.

We will peacefully assemble and mobilize at the corner of State and High
Streets. This is convenient to the underground parking garage. We will make
our presence known around the state house and then
proceed to the courts. Santa's helpers will be depositing toys in front of
the Franklin County Court to symbolize the lonely Christmas being imposed on NCP's. The Salvation Army will arrive to collect these toys at 1:00 pm.

To add a charitable tone to this event we ask that everyone donate a new,
unwrapped toy and/or canned/non-perishable food for collection.

Bring a camera as this may well be an event to remember!

The Columbus PD and the media has been advised. CPD is supportive!

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT! LET'S MAKE A STATEMENT!

Please contact me directly if you wish to meet in advance and van pool with
us into downtown Columbus.
