Police: Children Tortured, Toenails Pulled Out With Pliers

TAMPA, Fla. -- Authorities in Tampa, Fla., are searching Friday for a couple accused of torturing seven children by pulling out their toenails, shocking them and hitting them with a hammer, according to a Local 6 News report.

John Dollar, 58, and his wife, Linda, 51 are wanted on felony abuse charges in Citrus County after the children were reportedly found being kept like prisoners, Local 6 News reported.

Investigators say some of the children show signs of physical injury, including missing toenails, which were reportedly ripped out by pliers. Other children told deputies they were also tortured by electric shocks.

The seven children, who are not the Dollars' biological children, were removed from their home last month after one called an ambulance to pick up a 16-year old boy.

Doctors called police after finding the boy severely malnourished and suffering from suspicious injuries to his head and neck.

The children were home-schooled, so their contact with the outside world was very limited.

Neighbor Tom McMurray said he didn't ever see the children and does not understand how it could happen.

"I just can't imagine how people can do that," McMurray said. "We are a Christian family and I just can't understand anyone abusing children. It's just very difficult to fathom that someone would do that."

Three of the children were found malnourished, including 14-year-old twin brothers who each weighed about 37 pounds, according to the report.

Police said two of the children were not harmed because they were the favorite children, Local 6 News reported.

The Dollars were expected to show up at a Department of Children & Families hearing this week but are still missing.

They ought to feel the torture they put those poor kids thru.  What I'd like to know is why they were out running around free in the first place!

Where are the biological parents??

Were these people foster parents??

Why someone did not turn them in before now. There had to be other family members that knew something was out of place, or a neighbor who had ill feelings on not seeing so many children.

Even the fact that they were home schooled does not justify this. You have to report back to the Educational Department on progress of those kids. They have requirements whether the children attend school or not.

Maybe this is what has to be heard, if you know a family who has children and you never see them, take a minute to check it out...

What is a just punishment? Eye for an eye?
There should be an island somewhere, put all the abusers on it and let them abuse eachother.
