There is a new site for custodial and non-custodial parents in Washington State at http://washingtonsharedparenting.com.

The goal of the site is to help move along laws and initiatives to promote presumptive shared parenting in all divorces in Washington State.

Anyone is welcome, and your participation is encouraged.  The main site is a blog where we will discuss any and all stories we find about shared Custody and it contains a forum where we hope to have information to assist parents seeking joint custody, struggling with shared parenting, or similar issues.

You should put some information on there regarding the state Senate Bill 6888.  Sponsored by J. Kastama.

INFO FROM EMAIL RESPONSE BY HIS OFFICE FOLLOWS:

Thank you for your message regarding shared parenting.  Senator Kastama is keeping an "interested parties list" of individuals like yourself from throughout the state.  He has been trying to personally talk with everyone who has expressed an interest in this area.  Would you be willing to provide your contact information, including mailing address and phone number?

And you are correct, letters to the editor and contacting your legislators in Olympia is a great first step in letting your thoughts be known.

Thank you for your information and for your support,
Mary Sherman

Your suggestion is an excellent one.  Greg Howe, who runs The Other Parent, and his group is very active in working with Senator Kastama.  Greg will be a contributing author on the WashingtonSharedParenting.com web site.  As the legislative season starts to kick into action, you will see lots of stories related to Shared Parenting being posted.

In the mean time, we are focusing on identifying any candidates that specfically support or don't support the notion of presumptive Shared Parenting.  If you have contact with a candidate, and can ask the question and get a direct answer, we would love to post to the site those that do and don't support Shared Parenting.

Some may say they support it, but behave differently in Olympia.  If we h ave it in writing, we can hold them accountable for their actions.

We welcome your active participation on the site.
