Medical Coverage not paid by Insurance

My husband received residental custody of SS in late December so this end of the stick is new to us, but the games are still going on.

In Feb I took my daughter and SS to the dentist for a check up.  No big deal, I always take daughter every 6 months and SS needed a check up to considering I don't think BM did.  SS ended up needing 8 fillings.  The insurance (that we carry on SS) only covers about 1/2 of an almost $700.00 bill.  My question is if someone has verbage to use in a letter to send to BM since she is responsible for 1/2 of anything not covered by insurance.  I don't know that she will pay it anyway but I want the documentation in case we end up back in court.  

We are going on 3 months without CS.  Which is really no big deal, yes it is more expensive with another mouth to feed, at 13 they can eat you out of the house.  We live pay check to paycheck but as long as we still have our house and transportation and my SS is getting the attention he needs that is all that really matters to us.

send her a certified return receipt letter with a copy of the bill and request payment within 20 days upon receipt. If she fails to do so, file contempt and request a judgement for this amount.

Make the letter short and to the point.

Dear ex,
Find enclosed a copy of the recent bill for xx childs dental.  Per the court orders section xx (see copy of order attached) you are responsible for 1/2 the costs.  

Please remit payment within 20 days of this notice.

You probably won't ever see any of the money from her but it is worth a try.

Wendl's answer is perfect.

Just in the letter make sure to specify if she is to send her half of payment to the dentist, or as reimbursement to you.

If/when you want to pursue legal action, you can file a motion for contempt on unreimbursed medical costs as well as the child support.  Just do it all at once... if you ever come to that road.

While you may be able to make ends meet without mom's help, you still have 5 years left with this child before he's 18.

Having a contempt on record against her is good protection against any future actions she may try to take in court within the next 5 years.  

Judge gives less credibility to a parent who has been shown to act against a child's interest-- and failing to provide any support for a child is just that.
