Question about transportation...

can they fly instead???

can they get picked up after school???  or do you have to wait until later..???

I dealt with this for 11 years...

When son turned 10, and it was the year after I retired, I figured out how to go to his town and spend a weekend with him once a month.

Then my brother moved within a 5 hour drive, so yes, I drove 12 hours, picked him up and drove another 5 once a month.  

And yes, there was a weekend or two where I flew son down for a special event -- which made for about a 6 hour journey one way -- but he loved it!.

Somewhat OT, but if you're going to be flying kids (or yourself) around, be sure to sign up for a frequent flyer program. They're not as generous as they used to be, but even the worst ones should provide for an occasional free flight if you're using them much at all. If prices are the same, try to stay with one airline as much as possible to maximize the benefit. Strongly consider the one with best flights between the places you're likely to be flying the kid.
