It started with my first class of the summer session. Law and Society. The professor is AWESOME - Harvard Law graduate. I'm going to just love this class. Then on to Poli Sci. Professor is very weird and has the GOOFIEST laugh I have ever heard, but I like the class. Very thought provoking and right down my alley. I got home at about 12:30 to grab some lunch before I went to work. My sister called right before I was ready to walk out the door.

She tells me she's in the hospital. She has a heart condition and she'll be there at least three more days. My stomach dropped. She's only 23! My baby sister is in the hospital and her cardiologist (no one that young should have a cardiologist) is mentioning heart transplants. Jesus. I go to work and up until then I did OK. I started telling them what happened and I guess saying it out loud just made it hit home and I started crying. My boss and the secretary insist that I go see her right away. So I go up to visit and she is doped up on morphene and half the time, I don't think she recognized me. She looked awful and she was hooked up to oxygen and heart monitors and IV drips.

It just went from a completely wonderful day to a damn scary one. They took her out for some more testing so I went home. Hopefully they'll have a better answer for what's going on in the morning. My sister has two kids. I don't know if she's going to be OK or not, but please keep her and her kids in your prayers.

Your sister and her children are in our prayers

My sister has two heart conditions: cardiomyopathy and hypertrophia. The first is a weakened heart that doesn't pump enough blood and the later is an enlarged heart. The hypertrophia is caused by the heart not being able to pump all the blood out of the heart so the heart expands to correct the problem. Her cardiologist has her on medication that partients respond to in 2/3 of the cases. The first third respond almost immediately. My sister isn't in that catagory. The second third respond within 10 days of starting the medication. I need your prayers that she is in that catagory.

If she does not respond to the medication, she will be placed on the donor list and transfered to the University Hospital to await a heart transplant. My parents have come down and are with her. My dad has been able to sort out much of what the phycisians and specialists are saying so that we can tell other family members what's going on in plain English. I'm scared and worried about her and her kids. If you want a tearjerker, here's what my precious baby niece said: "Mommy's heart broke because it wasn't big enough to hold in all the love."

Please pray for my sister and our family. Thank you everyone.
