Should I offer a settlement?

I am thinking about sending the following fax to my wife's attorney:

Mr. ATTORNEY,
This offer is on the table until 6pm tonight.
I will agree to pay a portion of your fees towards a successful settlement on all matters of the dissolution.
If you would like to discuss the offer and appropriate fees, call me prior to the 6pm deadline at xxx-xxx-xxxx.
Respectfully,

ME

Can this be used against me in anyway?  I'm thinking of latter if they start argueing regarding attorney fees.

I know my wife isn't paying him and he knows that I am going into bankruptcy.

I think your idea is not too good. If I were to receive such a fax, I would interpret it as an attempt to get a favorable settlement in advance of negotiations, i.e., a bribe.

Put your entire settlement offer together, and then offer to pay a portion of what your ex will owe as attorney fees as a last-ditch incentive to close the deal. That way you are improving your ex's position, not just her attorney's. The way you're doing it now, you're gonna end up either pissing off the attorney, or in contempt of court and sitting in a jail cell.
