sealing financial forms

Hello Socrateaser!

I have applied to the california court for an exparte order to seal my financial forms after serving the other party. I requested to seal the financial documents filed by me earlier which were previously served.

I have requested the "income and expense declaration form along with
its supporting documentation" to be sealed.

My request was rejected by the court with a stamp "DENIED" without giving any reasons.

1) What are my options to get my supporting documentation sealed?
2) Was it a mistake in requesting for sealing the declaration form also instead of just the supporting documentation?

None.

Tell me exactly what contained in the supporting documentation worries you (other than the general desire not to have your financial condition open to the public record, like every other child support obligor/obligee).

I only discuss criminal matters in private, but I understand your reluctance. Bottom line is that unless there is some specific identifying account information or social security number, etc., on the documents, which you can reasonably demonstrate could cause you irreparable harm were they to fall into the wrong hands, the court will not seal the evidence.

My case definitely falls in one of the categories you have mentioned,
which could cause me irreparable harm. if the docs fall into the wrong hands.

Well, you'll have to find a way to explain that to the judge. You could show up for an ex parte emergency motion, and then ask the judge to hear your argument for sealing the documents in camera (chambers). Maybe he/she will grant your motion if you go to all that trouble.
