Review Of the ''Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper''

The "Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper" is a basically a loose-leaf binder with ten sections. Designed primarily for record keeping, the sections each begin with a cover sheet containing brief instructions in a large font, followed by a few photocopied 'templates' for you to fill out. The sections include Identification, Medical, Child Support, Expenses, Pick-up/Delivery Report, Mileage Expenses, 3rd Party Interference, 3rd Party Interference (Phone), Communications, and Attorney Contact.

The instructions on cover sheets are very brief, often just a couple of sentences. A better approach might have been to put a clear summary of what was to be filled in on the templates, along with the text that was included. Some of the blank templates were poorly photocopied and 'crooked', but overall they were basically functional. Some of the spaces provided for fill-in comments were simply too small to be practical, others seemed larger than needed.

The major downside to using the Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper is the cost- $49.95 plus shipping (about $7 to $10). That's a heck of a lot of money for a loose-leaf binder and some blank forms, in our opinion. Just sit down at your favorite word-processing program for a couple of hours, and you could make forms every bit as good as or better than those provided in the Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper. Because of the cost-to-content ratio, we cannot recommend buying the Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper.

A much better alternative is the ParentingTime Custody Tracker, a web-based application that is specifically designed for tracking custody time. ParentingTime generates detailed statistics of your parenting time and produces graphs and charts to use in court or negotiations. ParentingTime also has a shared web-calendar system, private messaging, and numerous other features that make a it a superior choice for keeping custody records.

Based on price (high) as well as content (extremely low), we rate the Custodial/Non-Custodial Parent Record Keeper as a 1-star resource (on a scale of 1 to 5).
